Stainless steel is a metal alloy that contains chromium and iron. Stainless steel can be classified depending on its microstructure. There are three classes of steel: austenitic, ferritic and martensitic. Austenitic stainless steel has good corrosion resistivity and high ductility, or the ability of the metal to bend without breaking. While ferritic stainless steel has less ductility, therefore, it cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Martensitic stainless steel, on the other hand, can be hardened and tampered, but it can also be brittle. Stainless steel can be produced in a variety of finishes and textures which can be tinted with colours.

Stainless steel has different compositions engineered for different applications. There are over 150 stainless-steel grades. Only about 15 are generally used. You can find a variety of uses for stainless steel because of its durability. Disparate items such as furniture and car accessories use steel in their manufacture. On furniture, steel is most favourable in home kitchens, for canteen equipment, bathroom accessories, and restaurant furniture. The main advantage of using stainless steel in the kitchen is that steel is one of the most hygienic surfaces to prepare food, while not affecting the food flavour because it does not react to acidic foods during food preparation. And lest you forget, steel kitchen implements are very easy to clean. With proper care, steel furniture can last over 100 years.

Stainless steels products are indeed very easy to clean, but before doing so, always try the softest cleaning materials first, like mild detergents or ammonia solution in warm water applied with nylon sponge or soft cloth. If these things are not enough, for those stubborn stains and dirt, try using coarser abrasive cleaners and nylon scouring pads, which may turn out to be the last option.
