There are different cookware materials, and one of the most durable is stainless steel. The primary component of steel is iron; but to fabricate stainless steel cookware, the iron is mixed with other alloys. Nickel, copper, and titanium are added in varied proportions. The cookware is considered a stainless steel if it has at least 12 percent chromium.

For most cooking wares, stainless steel is only employed as cooking surface, not for the whole product. In some cases, the main component for the mould is aluminium because it heats faster. But some chemicals from this material could separate during the heating process, so the cookware is coated with stainless steel to make the finished product durable, easy to wash, and safe.

Chromium is added while making stainless steel cookware to prevent quick corrosion and rusting. Plus, it gives the item its normal high gloss. Another stainless steel component is nickel, which gives the cooking product the capability to endure high heating temperature. It also provides higher durability for the finished merchandise.

Stainless steel is widely used to make many different items like magnetic jewellery, furniture, cookware, and car accessories. This is because steel can be fabricated through all standard fabrication methods. This goes especially for austenitic grade steels. In some cases, these are fabricated more severely compared to popular carbon steels.

Common austenitic grade steels have the ability to be bent, folded, spun and rolled, deep drawn, or forged (hot and cold). They have a high rate of work hardening and strength, which is why fabrication operations need more force compared to fabricating carbon steels. To make the job easier, heavier machineries are required. Providing more allowance may also be needed for spring-back.

Aside from high strength, austenitic steels are highly ductile. They can be formed through heavy cold forging into products like deep drawn troughs. This can be done despite the high rate of work hardening. There are few metals that have the ability to be deformed without splitting. For fabricating austenitic steels, common processes of electric welding are employed.

After stainless steel products are manufactured, they have to go through two treatment processes. These are called pickling and passivation.

Pickling treatment is used to remove the “scales” on the surface of a stainless steel product. The scales are often formed during welding operations and heat treatments. The cleaning agent involved is called “pickling paste”, which is made from nitric and hydrofluoric acids. Pickling treatment employed for all stainless steels, except those that have free machining grades, has 8-11% sulphuric acid. The item being treated will go through the process for 5-45 minutes at a room temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.

Passivation is used to remove iron on the surface of stainless steel products to avoid corrosion. If an item has about 16 percent chromium, it is treated for 30-60 minutes with 20-50 percent nitric acid at a room temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. If the grade is not more than 16 percent chromium, the treatment is done for 60 minutes with the same percentage of acid and temperature. For free machining grades, the treatment goes on for 25-40 minutes. 20-50 percent nitric acid is used along with 2-6 percent sodium dichromate at a room temperature of 50 degrees Celsius.

Cleaning stainless steel sometimes require the use of corrosive chemicals like solvents, acids and chlorides. If you are using these, you need to follow precautionary measures.

A lot of stainless steel cleaning agents use chloride, hypochlorite or bleach. When your washing solutions consist of these, you need to rinse the steel right away. Remember, you have to do it well to get rid of the chemicals completely. This goes especially for steel cookware and utensils.

If you use solvents for cleaning stainless steel, you should not use it within confined spaces. The vapours can cause nausea and dizziness. You should also avoid smoking or lighting matches if you are using such solvents.

When you are using acids, do not forget to wear safety glasses and gloves. You should also be careful in handling these liquids to avoid spills. When diluting these corrosives, add the acid solution to water and not the other way around. You should also only use containers that are resistant to acids, such as plastic or glass. After treating the stainless steel item with such fluids, rinse it well with water.

If you are using stainless steel cookware in your house, you can avoid stains and discolorations with the right cleaning tips.

For daily cleaning, hand-wash the cookware using hot water and dishwashing soap. Then, dry it completely with soft cloth before you store it. When you want to use the dishwasher, you have to get the cookware during the last part of the wash cycle. The same thing follows – you need to dry it with soft cloth.

Note that tap water with too much calcium content can lead to chalky white stains on your cookware. To get rid of these stains, you need to fill the item with .25 vinegar and .75 water solution. Put the solution over the fire, wait for it to boil and let it cool. Then, you wash it with hot water and soap. Dry the cookware with soft cloth.

When it comes to the cleaning materials to use, do not opt for abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads. These can remove hardened food really well, but they scratch the surface of the steel. The best options are nylon or plastic brushes and scouring pads.

Stainless steel may not be as expensive as titanium or platinum, but no one can deny that it is just as precious and valuable. In every city you visit here and abroad, the standing buildings are as proof of the resilience of this metal. Stainless steel is not only used in industries; it is also valuable as a medium for art specially sculptures.
If you are planning to visit St. Louis Missouri in the US then you will find one of the largest stainless structures there, the Gateway Arch. Another stainless steel art worthy of mention is the key sculpture in the centre of Franz Kafka square in Prague which is made entirely of stainless steel keys.
Travelling the world gives us the chance to appreciate the art of the places we visit. Lots of people are thinking of stainless steel as valuable only for industrial use, but there are lots of places in the world where it is used to show beauty and creativity. Perhaps on your next vacation, you can find stainless steel creations which are amazing, just keep your eyes open.

A juicer is an essential tool in the kitchen. This electronic device has the ability to extract the liquid from citrus fruits while allowing it to retain all its wholesome goodness. It is particularly useful for people who have certain dietary requirements. Nowadays, consumers can get this handy gadget in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, and makes. However, the stainless steel type holds a certain edge over its counterparts. This is because it is made of a durable material that will not easily break or get damaged. The succeeding paragraphs will discuss some tips on how to purchase a steel juicer.

When shopping for this kind of kitchen tool, it is important to choose a brand that is made of good quality steel. If the machine body is made out of too many parts, microorganisms are more likely to form and fester in those hard-to-reach places. Also, make sure that the item you buy is easy to clean or dishwasher safe.

Finally if you plan to purchase online, take the time to read consumer reviews that come with different products.

Stainless steel appliances are popular in many households due to their resiliency and high resistance to tarnish. In fact, many home owners prefer to have these kinds of devices rather those made of some other material. However, although stainless steel is resistant to “stains,” the shiny gleam will eventually start to dull with the passage of time, especially if you neglect to clean them. Therefore, you need to clean and polish them periodically to get rid of the grime that tends to build up on these gadgets after extended use.
There are homemade solutions you can make for treating them, the ingredients of which are accessible right in your own kitchen. Some of the common substances used for cleaning are olive oil, club and baking soda, vinegar, ammonia, and warm water. Take a soft, clean cloth and moisten it with any of these substances. Wipe the cloth on your appliances to improve their condition and lustre.
